There’s probably nothing more appreciated from generation to generation than beautiful antique wedding rings. Whether passed down from mother to daughter or given to a son for his new bride, these beautiful pieces of jewelry can be considered as true works of art.
If your family has no antique wedding rings to hand down or if you’re interested in a truly unique gift for your bride, there are some things to think about when shopping for these items. After all, you’re probably planning on this to be in your family for generations so it’s important to choose a quality piece that will increase in value and that will be appreciated for years to come.
For one thing, make sure that what you’re actually getting are true antique wedding rings. Many are just reproductions of certain designs or styles. This is important because many jewelry manufacturers use the word reproduction or replica but sometimes the novice can miss the word or phrase if they don’t look out for it. Since gold and platinum don’t show wear the way other items do, it can be difficult to really tell if a ring is truly an antique or just a replica.
It’s always a good idea to work only with a reputable jeweler or dealer when shopping for antique wedding rings. He or she should give you some type of guarantee or paperwork as to the authenticity of the jewelry. If they don’t have paperwork or a guarantee then consider moving on to another person.
Keep in mind that there are many different styles when it comes to antique wedding rings. For example, art deco style is usually very clean and simple with straight lines and without a lot of detail and decoration. On the other hand, Victorian style is very detailed and decorated with a lot of detail and intricacy. Art nouveau style is marked by curved lines and a lot of details as well. When deciding on which style of antique wedding rings you are going to purchase, you can just go by which style or design appeals to you aesthetically but then again, you may want to consider your own heritage as well. If your family was originally from England then a Victorian style may be for you; if from Scotland there are Celtic designs as well.
And you want to take into consideration the taste of your bride as well. While you may immediately think that something so detailed and intricate as Victorian style antique wedding rings is the most beautiful, some women prefer the cleaner and simpler lines of art deco styles, and vice versa. While you may consider this purchase as being one that your family will treasure forever, it’s also one that will need to be worn at the here and now. So while there are many choices before you when it comes to antique wedding rings you simply need to do a bit of research and you’re sure to make the right decision.

You may have an idea about what a big business antique toys really can be. Stories abound of people selling their old baseball cards or action figures for four or five figures, and sometimes even more. While these types of transactions are of course the exception to the rule, buying and selling antique toys can actually be very lucrative. There are some tips and tricks to the business, and some things to watch out for as well.
For one thing, many who are interested in antique toys know that the original packaging is very important to the integrity of the toy itself. However, the idea that the packaging keeps the toy from being damaged is not the only reason that it’s important. The packaging of antique toys is often part of the appeal. The design of the box or package, the lettering used, and things like these are all part of the appeal. Having a toy in its original package can remind people of the excitement they felt when they first purchased the toy, and this is all part of its value. So while many antique toys can be valuable even without packaging, finding items with it makes them worth even more.
Most toys need to be only ten years old to be actually considered antique, but of course you need to remember that some will just be more valuable than others. Items that were truly limited editions or specialized, or that came and went quickly, or those that just are not made anymore are of course going to be worth more. Some antique toys from a particular maker can also be very valuable. For instance, very old Matchbox cars or Radio Flyer wagons can be worth quite a bit. While Matchbox and Radio Flyer are both still in business, it’s obvious that these older brands and models are very different from what you can purchase today.
And of course antique toys will be affected by individual buyers. Some are very interested in a particular model or make of toy, whereas some toys appeal to a wider audience. If you find a buyer that is interested in antique toys that are wooden or that are motorized or that are from a particular decade or manufacturer, then you know what to look for. Sometimes certain items can flood the market and the value goes down, but usually you have an idea of what to be on the lookout for when it comes to popular items that sell well.
Many who love the business of antique toys find it to be one of the most enjoyable aspects of antiquing. There is probably no other type of antique that is more enjoyable to hunt down and then eventually sell. When you find a great item on the market and match it up with a buyer, it’s almost like giving them a birthday or Christmas gift all over again. So if you’re interested in antique toys why not give the business a try?

There’s no doubt that eBay has become one of the world’s largest retailers that has ever existed. It brings buyers and sellers together from across the country and even across the globe. But is eBay now the world’s biggest antique store? If you go to their website and browse for just a few minutes you might immediately think so!
There are a few reasons for the success of eBay as an online antique store, and if you’re considering entering the world of antiques you might want to consider those reasons before simply dismissing this site out of hand. For one thing, eBay allows someone with just one or a few pieces or items to sell to do so easily without much cost. Their listing fees are usually just a few dollars if even that. If you want to “dabble” in the world of antiques and aren’t really looking to open an actual antique store then you may want to consider this. Why pay rent and utilities and adverting costs for a real store when you can simply list your items on eBay and reach so many more potential customers doing so?
Using eBay as an antique store is very convenient for the buyers as well. Many analysts say that more and more people are buying more things online these days because it’s so much easier for them. Which would you prefer, sending your mother some flowers from the comfort of your own home or getting in your car and driving to the flower shop? Serious antique buyers also want to do a lot of shopping and research online when it’s convenient for them. They too see eBay as a convenient antique store that doesn’t require them to get dressed, drive to the store, and walk around for hours. They too know they can compare items from many different sellers with a few clicks of the mouse.
It’s really not that hard to get started in using eBay as your own personal antique store. If you have just a few items you can list them individually or if you plan on being completely serious about this endeavor you can actually open an eBay store where you can list all your items at once. Remember that you need good quality pictures of all your items; this is the one drawback of not going to a physical antique store in that the buyer cannot touch or see the entire item. So get some good close-up shots if there’s a lot of detail in your item, and some other pictures of all sides. Start with a reasonable price as your opening bid so you don’t price yourself right out of the industry. Make sure you have some shipping arrangements as well. This might mean a nearby UPS store or even just the post office, but your items need to be packaged carefully.
If you do all of this you might find that the world’s largest antique store is the perfect place to run your own business.
