29th June 2009
by Bob B Taylor

It is always perceived that coin collecting began when coins were first made long time ago. Since banks were non existent especially during ancient times, collecting them seemed to be a practical way to store them. They were being hoarded not only for their natural value but because of their rarity too. These coins have become family legacy, being passed from one generation to the next. A person can be very proud if he has his own medieval coin collection and a lot of people will be amazed by his collection. Some might actually wonder where he got those coins especially when some of his collection came from various places all over the world and how to collect coins. Well, it is easy to do it, really. Maybe what he did was to invest on a small coin collecting guide called “Coin Collecting Secrets” where he learned how to collect coins, how to take care of them and also, where to get them.

But there is more to than just learning how to collect coins that he has learned from this book. He also learned how to collect these coins and actually learn to preserve them for generations to enjoy. There are even some tips and advices on how to make money out of these coins. Sure, you can say that this is already money but think about selling an antique coin and it could be worth millions. Everybody says that this endeavor is called coin collecting for kids but if they knew how to handle coins in a proper way, how to preserve them and give good maintenance, there will come a time when they can earn money from it.

It’s the same as with collecting comic books or stamp-collecting and it they fall into an auctioneer’s care, these things you collect all through the years could worth a fortune. If you are fond of collecting new things, or rather “old” ones, then, perhaps you would like to look into how to collect coins and you can learn all of these things right in your own home at your own pace and time.

Cleaning Cloudy Mirrors

I have met a number of people who are having trouble with cleaning their mirrors that have become cloudy and today I want to try and help you in that regard.

If you own a full length mirror and is tarnished and cloudy well take comfort in the fact that you are not alone. I once owned a problem mirror myself; I can bet that you neighbour has owned one too. Like me at some point, you might have tried everything you can to clean it to no avail.

Now if you are planning to keep the mirror how do you find a way to deal with its problem? What is the best way to clean it? As a decorative mirror specialist I know a few tricks on how you can do this effectively. You can use these suggestions for a variety of mirrors including large, oversized, compact, framed, unframed including bathroom floor length mirror.

You can simply clean them with some water. You can use warm or hot water. Keep the water pure i.e. without adding any additives. I know that this can work well especially for plexy glass.

Also try using some vinegar and a newspaper to wipe of the cloudiness. This could work especially if some one once added some smeared the mirror with some oil.

Try a spray cleaner like Windex for some more alternatives. One thing I must mention here is that spray cleaners are good for some bathroom mirrors and not for others. So you should not despair if that particular spray does not work on your mirror.

If all these tips fail then it probably means there are other reasons why it does not respond. For example, if the problem lies with the silver on the back of the mirror then trying to clean it will not work . You can get it re-silvered but I would recommend you let go of it and find a new one – unless of course it has some sentimental value attached to it.

The Making of Lionel

Joshua Lionel Cowen of the now iconic Lionel Trains was born in 1877 to Jewish immigrants. He came to America, landing in New York with his family just after the Civil War. Cowen and his family emigrated to America with the backdrop of great world change, particularly the industrial revolution. The electric light had just been created by Thomas Edison and railroads and trains became perfect symbols of this new industrial and mechanical age. The west and east were finally connected in America via the Central and Union Pacific railroads, this led to a sense of expansion, optimism and exciting possibilities for some. Growing up amidst this revolution of change, it made sense that Cowen would be an inventor. He is credited with inventing the flashlight and just before the turn of the century, this college drop-out received his first patent for an instrument that was used to light the flash of a camera.

It’s rumored that Lionel Cowen made his first toy train before the age of ten. He carved a small train out of wood and fixed a small steam engine to it. Unfortunately, his parents kitchen was damaged when the steam exploded the engine. Lionel did not get discouraged despite the loss of his early steam locomotive and in 1900 at the turn of the century, founded the Lionel Corporation. It was at this point that rail travel was the seen as being the epitome of modernity, style, sophistication and progress. People of all ages were fascinated by this new technology.

It’s sort of ironic that the first working toy train by what would soon become Lionel Trains was not a toy at all, it was a specialty store window display prop, designed to showcase featured merchandise. As a flat gondola train carrying featured merchandise around circular track in a store display window, the Electric Express simultaneously succeeded and failed. It failed to highlight featured items in the gondola, this was because it succeeded in creating so much interest that customers would want to buy the fascinating new electric train. Lionel Cowen saw this and changed the direction of the Lionel Corporation to what we know it to be today, creating model trains.

Tips To Age A New Mirror

Are you looking for a way to make your new mirror to look aged? Well you have come to the right place. I have a trail of review about antique decorative mirrorsand my experience has helped thousands of website visitors. I highly recommend that you take a few minutes to read this post right to the end.

You can use a number of ways to convert the glass area of the frame to an aged mirror. If you are not using unframed mirrors you can even convert the frame to a tray if you wanted to. {You Can do this even withThis can even be done with} some mirror but do read makeup mirror reviews first

You can either use silver and gelatin or even an aluminum leaf. I know that most chemical kits cost something like $90 for 300 square feet but you can just use the latter on glass at a smaller fee than most| however, you can also just use the aluminum leaf because it is cheaper.

I am aware that some people have tried these methods to no avail especially because most people have trouble removing the grey paint on the back of the mirrors.

You can also try to use antique Mirror Patina, which is a water based alkaline solution, a water based solution made from alkaline and makes it look old and tarnished even when its new. You can do it on your own at $80 or so i.e. about $2 per square feet.

These are a sample of options to consider when trying to convert your oversized decorative mirrors or any kind to become an antique. I am confident that what I have shared above is enough to get you going.

Tips To Use Decorative Mirrors

This article will provide some useful information on how to use a mirror for decorative purposes to accentuate the look and feel in your home. If you have been thinking about doing but were not sure about how to actually do it then you have come to the right place.Below is a list of some of the ways you can use mirrors effectively.

There are lots of advantages for using mirrors to decorate your home. As an example, you can use them to enhance the natural light in your house. Also if you are looking for an extra space then you should consider them.

For those of you who have small room or small houses in general mirrors can really work wonders in creating some sense of space – provided you position them well. To top it all, they can add a sense of style to your rather dull home – no offense intended.

Here is a quick list of how to position them effectively

  • You can put them in a corner, say maybe on a table top or even above the fireplace. You can also place them at a wall that faces the doorway especially if you have a very small passage from the entrance.
  • Place the mirrors e.g. french antique bathroom mirrors at an adjoining wall to widen the space.
  • If you have a short hallway then you should place it at the far end to extend the hallway.
  • You also have an option to place them side by side on a stair case not only for the view but to widen the staircase
  • You can use them in the bathroom, bedroom and even in your kitchen depending on where you need more space and more light.
  • Make sure that as you position the mirror, it does not reflect some messy area in your house. I mean who I am sure you wouldn’t want to have your mess duplicated all over the house?

So whether you choose to use unframed wall mirrors, antique, unframed, floor, wall mirrors or what ever type if properly placed they are most likely to make your home look great even to a child’s eye.

Effective Method To Wash Shower Curtains

Are you looking for a way to wash your plastic shower curtain? Well you have come to the right place. I will simply discuss some few methods that you can adopt and use at your own peril. At the end of reading you will be in a position to know at least 3 alternatives you can use to clear your shower curtains..

Firstly, I am aware that changing curtains can be a rather daunting task and highly expensive at that. However, when the liner starts to develop some mold and becomes filled with soap scum – what then?

One options is to soak it in the bath with bleach and some water. Using this method can be quite tricky especially if you are particular about color preservation. I know how I used to be with my target brown toile shower curtain.

One of the easier ways to clean it is to put it in a washing machine. Plastic or fabric a washing machine can do a really good job when it comes to cleaning the curtains. You need to use a normal detergent for this and set the machine to be a non-rinse cycle. An idea would be to put some towels in there as well so their abrasiveness can help in the cleaning process.

Other than that you can soak it in soda crystals. You can go for this option if you are looking for something that is eco-friendly. With this one you get no smell but 100% cleaniliness. The process is simple, just add some soda crystals in a bath with water and then leave it overnight.

You also have an option to put your red and green paisley print shower curtain in the wash with the soda crystals instead of a normal washing detergent|in the bath and use the soda crystals. For the conditioning part, simply use some vinegar. I haven’t tried this but see no reason why it wouldn’t work.
