It is possible to look after your shower curtain so that it lasts longer for you. There are some ideas and methods that have been developed to keep your bathroom clean and tidy.
The biggest problem with shower curtains is the resultant moulds that tend to form on it because of always being in a damp environment. One thing that you can do is to remove the curtain maybe once every two or three days and hang it out in the sun. This will give it a chance to completely dry and kill any germs and bacteria that are likely to be on it.
Alternatively you can schedule to wash your curtains every time you wash your laundry as well or more frequently if you are someone who goes for long periods without washing your clothes. The thing is in addition to your normal laundry detergent you can add a cup of vinegar and a cup of any bleaching agent. Throw in some white towels and load the machine to its usually capacity, you can even add some of your clothes as well.
Hot water will damage the curtain as it might either melt or shrink in size. When you are drying do not throw it in the drier instead hang it out in the sun to dry.
Another idea that you can try is soaking the curtain in salt water or a mixture of salt water and vinegar after washing it and then put it back on the rod to dry from there. The function of the salt water and vinegar is to counter the formation of fungi and moulds.
You can use some of the sprays that are now available for use on shower curtains. The sprays are also designed to prevent the formation of moulds and mildew. Remember to always wash down any soap foams that fall on the shower curtain; they are the ones that usually become moldy.
